Major Position Responsibilities:*Understand Data Modeling as it relates to both a logical and a physical model.*Manage the Change Control process to insure that changes are being made at the appropriate times. *Administer all DDL changes to application databases.*Perform migrations of DDL changes from the test environments to the production environment.*Establish, maintain and document an appropriate DB maintenance schedule via the Production scheduler, keeping the requirements of the application in mind.*Perform database maintenance functions (i.e. Runstats, Reorgs, Image Copy).*Ensure the availability of the data through the development and installation of a disaster recovery strategy.*Understand and research RDBMS related security issues.*Serve as technical advisor, providing technical expertise and training to the application developers and end-users as needed, along with assisting with the development of RDBMS applications, includingoBe able to write, review and debug SQL.oEstablish and conduct training sessions on DBA related subjects.oProvide database expertise for new proposals, services and products.*Perform and documment all ONCALL duties assignedo24 X 7 support for all Production environments and any mission critical test environments.*Perform monitoring and trouble shooting of the application systems. *Recommend performance improvements to the application teams.*Monitor and implement performance improvements to DBA maintenance.*Stay current on DBA knowledge.*Participate in application meetings, change management and problem meetings as required (i.e. status meeting)*Work with application developers to define, implement and maintain the best solution possible. *Interface with appropriate vendors.*Document and maintain the DB standards (ie database names).*Evaluate RDBMS products and features.*Evaluate, implement, support and use RDBMS support software*Provide DA team with enforcing database standards (ie column names)*Perform additional assignments as requested by supervisor or management*Monitor the status of databases as needed, and notify appropriate personnel when there are concerns (e.g., growth limits).*Perform all activities within the established plans and schedules*Maintain a working knowledge of programming languages uses at ACS GHS.*Possesses above average problem solving skills. *Analyzes and documents problems and requirements that are understandable at all levels. *Communicate, both (verbally and in writing), with people at all levels of the corporation, in a clear and concise manner. *Acts as integral member of team. *Possesses good organizational skills and time-management skills. *Sets challenging goals and works diligently to achieve or surpass them. *Manage competing demands in a stressful environment. *Possesses good work habits, including ability to work well with others. *Take initiative, keeps promises, honors commitments, and takes responsibility for own actions or mistakes. *Promotes change as necessary in a continually improving organization; is enthusiastic and optimistic in the face of change. *Possesses a working knowledge of Data Center procedures and schedules, Turnover Control procedures, Programming productivity tools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
*5+ Years experience with Sybase
2+ Years experience with Microsoft SQL/Server
*Advanced Transact SQL skills
*SQL tuning experience
*Solid data loading skills (load scripts, import, export, etc.)
*BCP experience
*UNIX experience
Pluses:
*Relational and Data warehouse design knowledge
. Knowledge of partitioning large databases
*Knowledge of Healthcare or MMIS
